Laura McRae Hitchcock
Artist’s Statement
It is the space between that I find fascinating; the space between thoughts, between moments, between physical things. Science tells us that we are mostly the space between the atoms that make up our physical beings; not solid at all, it turns out, but primarily the gap, the void, the opening between the atoms. I ask myself what lies in that space? Is this where we find spirit? Our
consciousness? That is where the focus of my art lies. I create paintings that seek to open that space, explore it in color, texture, line and shape in order to form a threshold for the viewer to enter and have an experience all their own.
