Artist’s Statement

I am honored to have the first solo exhibition at CANDL Fine Art and the opportunity to present a wide range of my creative practice to Augusta’s artistic community. The artworks that make up this show date from early 2000’s to present and reflect multiple approaches to artmaking. I have always considered myself first and foremost an artist rather than the more specific titles of a sculptor, ceramicist, or photographer. I enjoy moving back and forth between different materials, scales, and media. As for common elements within this body of work, you will first see my personal aesthetic on full display. My love of natural materials, earthen colors, and rough textures are all in evidence. There is also the use of weathered/eroded forms and sense of change over time. The themes consist of natural forms such as nests and leaves as well as fragments of human history such architecture, sculpture, and pottery. The title Circle Forward Circle Back (which was originally the title of one of my collage drawings) encapsulates both my use of circles within these works and the cyclical nature of the themes I return to year after year. The artworks reflect my love of nature forms, of teaching and travel, and the beauty of world around us.
