Aort Reed

Artist’s Statement

My work is rooted in the act of transformation, of spaces, of stories, and of lived experiences. I see murals and paintings not just as visual objects, but as conversations: between the artist and the viewer, between memory and imagination, and between community and culture. Growing up in Augusta, Georgia, with a blend of Thai and Southern heritage, I was surrounded by an ecosystem of influences, comics, cartoons, and the experimental imagery of 1980s music videos, that shaped how I perceive the world. From an early age, any available surface became my canvas, and that impulse to translate thought into image has never left me.

While my work is influenced by the long lineage of fine art, I find my deepest inspiration in thought, experience, and communication. My murals, whether anchored in bustling city streets or tucked inside intimate spaces, are designed to stir reflection and evoke emotional connection. In both scale and detail, my goal is to create art that moves beyond aesthetics, art that carries narrative, history, and dialogue into the spaces it inhabits.

Biography

Aort Reed (Augusta, Georgia) is a muralist and contemporary visual fine artist known for transforming public spaces into bold, narrative-driven works. The son of Anna Phimsoutham of Bangkok, Thailand, and Oscar Reed of Augusta, he grew up immersed in a uniquely creative environment that fueled his early imagination.

Reed earned his BFA in Painting and Drawing from Augusta State University, after attending multiple colleges that shaped his path as an artist. His work first gained recognition through juried exhibitions in 2012 and 2014, marking the beginning of a broader artistic presence. Since then, his paintings and murals have been featured in magazines, online platforms, and national news outlets. Locally, his large-scale murals, including commissions for Westobou, the Georgia Cyber Center, and Jackie M’s & Son Restaurant, have been highlighted in the Augusta Visitors Bureau Experience Guide, The Augusta Chronicle, WRDW-TV (News 12), and WFXG (FOX 54).

Today, Reed’s practice reflects a philosophy centered on thought, experience, and emotional dialogue. His work continues to expand across both public and private spheres, offering viewers and collectors immersive encounters with narrative, memory, and imagination.
