Recently, a group of guests gathered at CANDL Fine Art for a private event hosted by Outside the Box Fine Art. What unfolded wasn’t simply a conversation about paintings—it was an intimate, captivating journey through history, memory, and the artistic process, guided by the artist himself, Edward Rice.
Rice spoke about the times and places that inform “Selected Paintings 2005 – 2025”. And only as he can, he brought those times to life—blending historical insight with reflections on architecture, light, and the daily rhythms of making art. Holding up a 2005 watercolor titled Mykonos, he spoke not only of the vivid blue sky but the lack of detail in the amorphous structure.
For those of us there, it wasn’t just an art talk. It was an invitation into the layered, reflective world of an artist who has spent decades looking closely, not just at what’s in front of him, but at what came before. His work doesn’t just depict—it remembers, interprets, and honors.
